Wood floors are a great flooring application in any living space.  The prices of the wood can range anywhere from $2/sq.ft to over $12/sq.ft.  Oak is usually used as the par wood for hardness.  The softer woods are going to be harder to take care than the harder woods.  Mostly the exotic woods are primarily harder by nature, but sometimes are light sensitive, which means they will vary in color with exposure to light.  One very popular wood that is light sensitive is Brazilian Cherry, it looks great when installed and finished but will vary in color over time.
